You know what sucks?
When the holidays are over and you don’t really have an excuse anymore to eat every chocolate covered item in sight.
Or an excuse not to workout but it’s still -100 outside, so you don’t feel like doing anything.
I am right there with you.
I saw this meme the other day and it really spoke to me.
AMIRIGHT?!
So let’s do this together. I have some easy tips that will get us motivated and back on track. Summer 18 here we come.
1 FIND A FRIEND. SERIOUSLY.
This is probably the most important step. Find someone to sign up for classes together this will make you feel obligated to actually attend the gym or exercise class.
If everyone is busy or you work shift work, use my tried and true workout rule. Tell yourself that you can go right home if you still don’t want to workout after you drive to the gym, change, and walk on the treadmill for 2 minutes.
IT WORKS. I’ve never gone home.
2 BUY A CUTE WORKOUT OUTFIT
IT WORKS. Look good, feel good isn’t just a silly saying. I find that when I’m actually excited to put on my yoga outfit and head out the door, I’m more excited to actually go and workout too. I know some people might be rolling their eyes saying that’s a load of BS, you can workout in a t-shirt from grade 7 camp and some ratty old sweats. Well yes, you can. BUT when I’m searching for motivation to get myself INTO gym or onto a spin bike, an outfit I feel great and comfortable in will be that extra bit of inspo to get it done.
Obvi I’m the biggest marble fan. So when Sportchek Santa sent me the most AMAZING MARBLE WORKOUT OUTFIT…. I almost fell off my chair. I’ve always loved Onzie but this bra and pant combo is taking my workouts next level. Over top, I’m loving this track jacket for a couple reasons. 1, it looks cute and 2, after a hot yoga, spin or bootcamp I don’t love stuffing my sweaty arms into a thick jacket. I feel like it’s suffocating me. Having said that, on the WAY to the gym and for my warmup I’ve been rocking my Nike sweater and it’s SO CUTE. It’s a crop sweater, which is perfect for my height and size. Finally, this high neck Nike sports bra is extremely flattering. I don’t know what it is about high neck tops but I love the neckline, not to mention the full support.
3 GET SOME TECH
I used to be SO good with MyFitnessPal. I put every single nibble in there and it held me accountable, reminding me about the cookie at lunch as I would try to justify another brownie after dinner. Normally I would say, god damn eat both and finish it off with a slice of cake too. If we’re trying to LOSE WEIGHT for physical and mental health benefits, then let’s be kept in check.
In addition to MyFitnessPal, the thing that has changed my game lately is the FitBit Ionic. Now this little bugger KEEPS. ME. ACCOUNTABLE. Every step, every nap on the couch, every missed workout. I highly suggest everyone go out and grab a tracker watch. Not to mention how my workouts have improved now that I can watch my heart rate so closely.
Lastly.. the Withings Smart Scale…. Holy moly. We have a love hate relationship. I LOVE how thorough it is and the graphs it makes but there are NO SECRETS between that scale and I. Having said that, I’ve always loved an honest friend. This guy keeps me on my workout schedule.
4 STICK WITH ONE ACTIVITY FOR NOW
Sometimes when we add too many memberships and activities it can get overwhelming. I do believe mixing up workouts and keeping your body guessing is a great thing. But when we are coming back from holidays and trying to get back into the workout groove, consistency can be our best friend. So sign up to one gym, or one studio and book classes every day to make sure you go and remain consistent!!

UGH. EYEROLL. WHYYYYY.
Really though, they help. Just do it. It WILL motivate you! I’m not going to bury my head in the sand. Step on that scale, grab your iPhone and think of how you’ll feel once you hit your goal and feel amazing!! Make sure you set a goal as well so you can push yourself towards something, whether that goal is weight, inches or muscle!
OKAY LET’S DO THIS.I’m started a wedding beauty and fitness series so MAKE SURE you stay tuned. I’ll be sharing more workout posts and fitness/diet tips.
